  • Parent Portal Open for Marking Period III Grades and Comments!

    by
The parent portal of Power School is now open for Marking Period III grades.  This is an important time to encourage your children to learn to self-advocate.  If there are grade discrepancies or questions, the first step should be for a student to reach out to his or her teacher.  I am proud to work with an outstanding faculty and can assure you that they are a nurturing and approachable group who are happy to help!  Faculty information can be found on our website.  The parent portal link can be found in the drop down menu, under MHS, and by following the link for parents.  By working together there is no limit to what we can achieve!!

  • UCVTS Robotics Club Places First at Regional FRC Competition!

    by
The Robotics Club from Union County Vocational Technical Schools (UCVTS) in Scotch Plains, NJ placed first at the Regional FRC FIRST Robotics competition held recently at Clifton High school. Team 1257, “Parallel Universe” as they are known has been competing for ten years overall and the past four under the stewardship of lead mentor Ms. Jacqueline Gerstein (Pictured standing front row far left). During the two day competition each robot is teamed with two others to form an alliance to battle against another alliance of three competitors.  After the preliminary rounds, finalist teams are chosen in an elimination format where strategizing and teamwork among the three robots is the key to winning. Throughout the weekend, Team 1257 was able to overcome setbacks including having to replace their robotic arms which were lost in one of the early rounds. They were able to persevere and hit their stride in the final rounds. As Ms. Gerstein noted, “No matter what the outcome, I am very proud of this team, the way they worked together and cooperated on the build and execution of the robot. The fact that we were on the winning alliance is truly wonderful, I couldn’t be more happy for the kids”.  There is one more round of district competitions and then hopefully onto the regional championships.

  • Eight Semifinalists from Magnet High School Named in the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program

    by

Congratulations to the following Magnet High School students for being selected as Semifinalists in the 59th annual National Merit Scholarship Program: Michael S. Auda, Matthew D. Beauchamp, Brandon Ho, Sherry M. Shanker, Justin L. Sitler, Alex Wu, George Ye, and Noga Zaborowski. About 1.5 million juniors in some 22,000 high schools entered the 2014 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2012 PSAT, which served as an initial screen of program entrants. The Semifinalists have an opportunity to continue in the competition for some 8,000 National Merit Scholarships worth more than $35 million that will be offered next spring. From the approximately 16,000 semifinalists, about 90% of the Semi-finalists are expected to attain Finalist standing, and more than half of the Finalists will win a National Merit Scholarship, earning the Merit Scholar title. Good luck!
