  • Important Information: PSAT/ACT Aspire Testing 10/19 and 10/20

    by Rafalowski, 10-17-16

    Dear Parent/Guardian:

Once again this year, we are proud as a district to be administering the ACT Aspire to our freshmen and the PSAT/NMSQT examination to all sophomores and juniors.  These assessments are given as a way of preparing students to take the ACT and/or SAT in the spring of their junior year.  The assessments are practice only and are not used in the college admissions process.  However, the National Merit Scholarship Program uses the results of the junior year PSAT/NMSQT administration to determine eligibility for their annual scholarship competition.

In December, we will send home the results of the exam your student participated in.  Both the ACT Aspire and the PSAT/NMSQT provide rich score reports that can assist parents, students, and educators in determining areas that may offer room for improvement in a variety of subject areas.  UCVTS also uses data from these assessments to analyze our own programs as well as to make suggestions pertaining to your child’s performance on future assessments.

This year, the PSAT/NMSQT will be administered on Wednesday, October 19th.  The ACT Aspire will be administered on Wednesday, October 19th and Thursday, October 20th.  It is especially important that each student arrive to school on time the day of the assessment, as the exams are given first thing in the morning.  A revised schedule that includes all A-Day classes has been created for the remainder of the day on the 19th.  On Thursday, October 20th, we will have a regular schedule day.

Since seniors do not have to take these exams, they will be permitted to arrive no later than 10:50am on October 19th.  Senior students may also come to school at the usual time, as we will make space available for them to work quietly.  It is important to note that seniors who arrive after 10:50am will not receive credit for the full day.

We do not recommend any specific preparation for these exams. As with any standardized assessment, the best preparation is to get a good night’s sleep the night before and eat a healthy breakfast on the day of the exam.

If you have any questions regarding the ACT Aspire or the PSAT/NMSQT, please reach out to me.

    Thank you,

    Mr. Rafalowski
