Dear Parents, Guardians, Students, and Community Members

I am writing today to introduce myself as the new Principal of Union County Magnet High School. While I have only been on campus for one full week, I have already had the opportunity to meet several students, staff, and community members. It has quickly become apparent that there is a history of profound success here at Magnet, which stems from a strong culture for learning. I am honored and privileged to become a member of such a successful school community, and look forward to providing the leadership necessary to continue the high-level of excellence that has become a Magnet tradition.

I come to this campus having served in one district for the past fourteen years. During that time, I served the community as a high school and middle school mathematics teacher, K-12 Curriculum Coordinator, and K-12 Director of Assessment and Curriculum. Additionally, I have had the distinct pleasure of working with some of the finest educators in New Jersey as part of the PARCC Educator Leader Cadre’ and Next Generation Science Standards Task Force. These opportunities have constructed for me a firm foundation in curriculum design, student-centered learning, and the means to nurture a community of stakeholders who feel confident collaborating. I believe in a school environment that fosters critical thinking, problem solving, and the transfer of knowledge to authentic, real-world, global situations. Striving for these key tenets, which are staples of our school Mission Statement, while also acting with the highest of academic integrity, will undoubtedly position our students for success in both college and career.

I am excited to draw upon these experiences and am honored to have been appointed as your principal. It has been a practice of mine to maintain an open door policy for collegial discussions and for addressing the concerns of our educational community. To that point, if at any time you wish to speak with me, please do not hesitate to reach out or to stop by. I value varying perspectives and look forward to working along side each of you for years to come. Together, we will continue to build upon the excellence that has already been established here at Magnet High School.

Yours in Education,

Paul C. Rafalowski
Principal, Magnet High School
